Added 16 Feb, 2012

The most easily recognizable individual in the Soca music world, Machel Montano, dominated the coveted pre-Carnival Monday night spot as he celebrated 30 years as a performer during the 2nd annual extravaganza known as Machel Monday.

The Bmobile endorsee and world renowned entertainer took thousands of appreciative audience members on a musical journey spanning his 3 decades of hit songs, evolution and growth as an artiste/person.

The jam-packed Hasely Crawford Stadium erupted in glee as Montano appeared on stage opening his unforgettable set with his latest groovy Soca crowd pleasers, “Bottle of Rum” and “On the Avenue”.

Fans of all ages, races and social backgrounds thoroughly enjoyed the world class performance as ‘Mr. Fete’ and his band touched on every musical period of Machel’s 30 year long career, from the days of Panasonic Express, through the Xtatik years, all the way up to the age of HD.

As always, Machel’s sponsor Bmobile backed him fervently in this concert venture and also provided a special lounge area within the VIP section where patrons including West Indies cricketer Darren Ganga enjoyed the show while sipping on special Bmobile cocktails which were fused with Montano’s own 3Zero Rum. The Bmobile lounge also offered free wifi and illuminating party paraphernalia while Blink Broadband streamed this major event globally via the company’s website www.bpartofit.com.

The extraordinary show gave fans many memorable moments such as Machel’s ode to Valentine’s Day (which prompted Sports Minister Anil Roberts to initiate a romantic moment of his own) and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s appearance to honour singer Benjai for his capturing of true national pride in his 2011 smash “Ah Trini”. Also touching was Montano’s tribute to the late Whitney Houston and his appreciation segment
for the Calypso art form which featured Calypsonians Lord Superior, David Rudder, Baron, Denyse Plummer, Singing Sandra and the Mighty Shadow.

Machel Monday also showcased the talents of HD members Farmer Nappy and Patrice Roberts alongside guest artistes Kerwin Dubois, Lil Rick, Beenie Man, Pitbull, The Alternative Quartet, Erphaan Alves, and a host of young hip-hop and break-dance groups. Much to his fans’ pleasure Montano ended the amazing performance with an anthology of his previous Road March winning tunes which included “Band of the Year”, “Jumbie”, “Advantage” and “Big Truck” and placed emphasis on his 2012 contender “Pump Yuh Flag”.
