bmobile and Keshorn Walcott bring Christmas Cheer to over 100 children
Port-of-Spain, Trinidad – December, 17 2018
Five children’s homes across Trinidad were gifted with Christmas cheer recently as telecommunication leaders, bmobile, and Brand Ambassador, Keshorn Walcott, hosted their second annual ‘Christmas Treat’ at the athlete’s residence.
At this year’s edition, Walcott opted to extend his generosity by inviting five Homes for a day of fun, games, laughter and lots of dancing. Altogether, over 100 kids from Margaret Kistow (Arima), Ferndean’s Place (Point Fortin), Bridge of Hope (Sangre Chiquito), Our Lady of the Wayside (Belmont) and Casa de Corazon (Sangre Grande) shared in the Christmas spirit courtesy the double-Olympic medallist and T&T’s leading 4GLTE Network.
Marsha Caballero, TSTT’s Head of Corporate Communications, was delighted to once again be a part of this intimate endeavour.
“We at bmobile see initiatives such as these as invaluable. Keshorn consistently partners with us on projects aimed at helping Children Homes such as our Book Buddies Programme (textbook and stationery donation to Homes), and most recently, flood relief efforts (Bridge of Hope). It was mandatory that we give the kids a day of fun. They deserve it. Charity begins at home and Keshorn and bmobile, will continue to boldly live up to this statement,” she stated.
Throughout the charitable event, Walcott admitted that preparations were a bit hectic, but expressed pleasure to see such a wonderful turnout from the Homes.
“It was tough to prepare but to the see the smiles on the faces of these kids makes it all well worth it,” he said while assisting a youngster on the bouncy castle. “I found that hosting one Home (St. Dominic’s) was not enough last year, and I wanted to do something even bigger and better because I would like this event to grow. If I can reach out to all the Homes over a period of time, then yes, that would be my ultimate goal.”
The Toco-born field athlete also credited his longstanding partner, bmobile, for their welcomed assistance in ensuring the day’s proceedings ran smoothly. bmobile’s specially designed Play Centre was also a big hit with the kids as were able to they show off some of their dancing moves on a huge screen using the Xbox One’s ‘Just Dance Unlimited’.
In late October, Walcott held a fund-raising party to help offset the costs of the Christmas Treat. He has also been building his personal brand ‘Nepenthe’ which encompasses giving back and charitable work within communities.
In response to his selfless gesture, Heather Pierre, an administrator at the Lady of the Wayside Home acknowledged Walcott’s kindness and lauded his efforts as a young sportsman.
“We were really honoured to be here with him. One of our kids completed a project on sportsmen earlier this year and Keshorn was featured in it, so we all wanted to meet him. Keshorn treated us with love and respect and presented himself as quite humble and caring; he went out of his way to facilitate us.” Pierre explained.
