bmobile and the Rotary Club team up for Jazz Fundraiser
Port-of-Spain, Trinidad – May 2, 2019
Committed to positively impacting the communities they serve, communications giant bmobile has partnered with the Rotary Clubs of Maraval and Port of Spain to host “Jazz under the Stars”; a concert and fundraising event, featuring top local and regional performers, to be held at the Green Meadows Estate, Santa Cruz on May 4.
TSTT’s General Manager Enterprise Services, Ian Galt reinforced the organisation’s commitment to working with entities like Rotary to support charitable initiatives. “TSTT has a long-standing history of empowering communities and creating opportunities for the people of Trinidad and Tobago to achieve their fullest potential and contribute meaningfully to society. We not only invest in technology, we invest in T&T. We are therefore proud to partner with both Rotary Clubs to host an event that merges culture and charity; a perfect pair, to enrich lives and essentially contribute to national development” stated Galt.
Created by the Rotary Club of Maraval and executed this year in partnership with the Rotary Club of Port-of-Spain, “Jazz under the Stars” has been hosted for the past eight years.
This Saturday’s event guarantees an exhilarating and memorable performance by acclaimed Saxophonist Arturo Tappin and his band out of Barbados. Patrons will be treated to a taste of the French experience with the JSJ band from Guadeloupe and revel in the unique sound of Chutney Jazz led by Rikki Jai with guest artiste, Nishard M. Neisha Julia Guy and John Arnold are also among the featured acts.
Club Presidents, Jennifer Abraham of Rotary Club Maraval and Hadyn Gittens of Rortary Club Port of Spain, emphasized that all proceeds from the event will go towards charity. “Patrons and corporate entities like bmobile that support “Jazz under the Stars” and other Rotary Club events make it possible for us to sustain several key projects; many of which are related to youth empowerment. In addition to our other projects, this year’s proceeds will be used to supply teaching resources and bolster literacy programmes at the Rampanalgas Roman Catholic Primary, support one of our Cricket Academies in Maraval and continue the work we are doing with the A.R.R.O.W Foundation to improve literacy at the La Sieva RC Primary School” noted Abraham.
The three month project at the La Seiva RC School is currently underway and the Rotary Club hopes that through fundraising initiatives and corporate support, this and other programmes can be offered every year.
Among its projects, the Rotary Club of Maraval is facilitating youth access to services by partnering with an initiative of the Ministry of Health focused on HIV/AIDS education and prevention for at-risk youth. The Club also provides financial support and counselling for battered women and children through the Trinidad Shelter, facilitates vision testing at the men and women’s prisons and supports the Gordon Home for the Aged. The Rotary Club of Port of Spain has for many years provided a “Wheelchair Bus Service” for the differently-abled to move around the capital city, daily. RC Port of Spain’s specific focus is on support for the differently-abled and in this regard, the Club provides ongoing support to the Princess Elizabeth Centre through the establishment of a free-service Dental Clinic and specialist medical services at the Orthopedic Hospital situated at the Centre. The Club also similarly provides ongoing support to Goodwill Industries, ESHE’s Learning Centre and other learning organizations focused on the differently abled.
