bmobile’s return to the 2017 Decibel Entertainment Festival

bmobile’s Zombie Island and Escape Room will return to the 2017 edition of the Republic Bank Decibel Entertainment Festival which is scheduled to take place from May 5th to May 7th at Queen’s Hall, St Ann’s. Building on the Festival’s 2017 theme, ‘Be Entertained’, the notoriously popular bmobile Zombie Island invites daring patrons to entertain their deepest fears in the spine chilling scare house and indulge their intelligence in the immersive, mind-boggling experience that is the bmobile Escape Room. The bmobile Escape Room, which premiered in 2016, challenges patrons to use their surroundings and problem solving skills to find the key that unlocks the room.
Lorraine Steele, TSTT’s Senior Manager, Commercial Marketing spoke at the media launch held at The Residence Restaurant and Bar at One Woodbrook Place on March 22nd. She indicated that bmobile was once again honoured to renew the sponsorship and present two highly anticipated festival attractions. Steele reinforced the Company’s commitment to culture and the arts in Trinidad and Tobago and commended the festival for its instrumental role in fostering youth development and promoting economic diversification, by creating a platform where local creative talent and the spirit of entrepreneurship can thrive. “While the element of entertainment draws the masses, the production of attractions like bmobile Zombie Island generates employment for actors, cosmetologists, set and costume designers, carpenters and much more. Additionally, internship opportunities exist where young people can benefit from exposure to their related fields of interest.”
The festival will once again feature a Conference on the 1st day from 8am to 2pm that is free to secondary and tertiary level students who register through their schools. It brings to the forefront career opportunities in film, fashion, music and dance by hosting panel discussions with several prominent local and international industry leaders. Steele noted that through the bmobile Foundation, students involved in construction, music production, sound engineering and other technical fields will be invited to understudy the creative masterminds during the festival construction phase. “As a local enabler, bmobile is fully committed to the progress of Trinidad and Tobago. We invest in technology, projects and programmes like the RBL Decibel Entertainment Festival, that actively seek to harness the uncut potential of the country’s most valuable resource – its people. Decibel’s marriage of arts and entertainment with education and opportunity embodies bmobile’s tagline ‘Life is On’, and aligns seamlessly with the pillars of the Company’s philanthropic arm; the bmobile Foundation.” Steele continued, “We applaud the efforts of the Decibel team to connect Trinidad and Tobago’s future leaders, creators, thinkers and game changers with tools that can make their dreams a reality.”
Simon Baptiste, Chief Executive Officer of Question Mark Entertainment, the company behind the entertainment festival, Scot Sardinha, Festival Director and Karen Mc Sween, Republic Bank Limited’s Marketing Manager Deposits and Investments, also spoke at the launch. Baptiste thanked bmobile for its ongoing support over the 4 years of the event and indicated that in a similar fashion to previous years, the 2017 festival will offer mind-blowing theme park attractions, world class concert performances, celebrity meet and greet sessions with autograph signings and an expo village that showcases top local talent. Baptiste stated this year will have 10,000 to 12,000 visitors, 30 to 40 exhibitors and a food village.
There will be several new additions, including the extension of the festival from 2 days to 3 days, Kes The Band as the headline act on Saturday’s Fandom night and magic nights with a show each night by Kess the Illusionist. The country’s biggest Cosplay competition will make its debut on Sunday 7th May with a grand prize of a 2-week scholarship to the Cinema Makeup School in Los Angeles from July 30th to August 11th, 2017 along with airfare and accommodation. This year’s celebrity lineup include Willow Shields, best known for her role as Primrose Everdeen in The Hunger Games film series; Jeremy Jordan, who currently plays Winslow “Winn” Schott, Jr. on the CBS drama series Supergirl; WWE wrestler, actress, and model, Nikki Bella; and Rob D’Original, one of the world’s most creative barbers.
