Bloomington youth and community sports shorts and highlights
The 10th annual Bloomington Jefferson Football Golf Classic tournament is Friday, Aug. 6, at Dwan Golf Club in Bloomington.
The scramble event tournament begins at 1 p.m. and will be followed by dinner at David Fong’s Restaurant. Fee of $75 includes golf, golf cart, dinner and door prizes.
This tournament raises funds for Bruno Waldner and Stan Skjei scholarships. And the event helps fund additional scholarships for Jefferson football graduates interested in teaching/coaching careers.

Cougars net softball title
Bloomington Cougars under-12 Bloomington Athletic Association girls traveling softball team placed first in the USSSA state tournament a week ago in Champlin.
The Cougars defeated Andover 15-12 in the championship game.
Jefferson girls soccer
Jefferson High School girls soccer team will conduct captains’ practices from 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 9-13.
The Jaguar girls soccer team will hold a fundraising car wash from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at the high school.
Official high school practices/tryouts begin at 7:45 a.m. Aug. 16-20.
Middle school fall sports
Bloomington middle school fall sports athletes should pick up eligibility packets in the main offices at Valley View, Oak Grove and Olson schools.
Football sign up and equipment will be issued from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, in the schools’ boys locker rooms. First practice is 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2.
Eighth-grade volleyball, sixth- through eighth-grade cross country and eighth-grade girls soccer team members will sign up the first week of school (Sept. 7-10).

Fall adult sports sign up
The Bloomington Parks and Recreation Division is accepting registrations for its 2010 fall adult sports programs.
The fall adult softball league begins Aug. 30 with games scheduled at either Dred Scott Playfield or Valley View Park.
Teams will play five weeks of doubleheaders. Men’s, women’s and co-recreational leagues are available.
Adult touch football leagues are also forming. League play will begin Aug. 30 and continue for seven weeks. Games will be played at Shop NFL Jerseys and get it shipped fast with 7-9 Day.Dred Scott.
Touch football is a finesse sport that does not rely on the physical contact associated with tackle football.We offers a variety of UGG boots and sheepskin boots in wide variety of styles and colors. Games are played on fields that are 90 yards in length and 40 yards wide.

Local hole-in-ones
Three Bloomington golfers recorded recent hole-in-ones.
Matt Birkenholz shot a hole-in-one on the 123-yard, 13th hole at Meadowbrook Golf Course. He used a 9-iron.
Rich Salseg notched an ace on the 124-yard, third hole at Rich Valley using an 8-iron.
Another Bloomington golfer, Mike Svobdny, shot a hole-in-one on the 166-yard, seventh hole at Monticello.
